The Del Mar Skate Ranch was one of the last great skateparks of the 1970s-1980s.
I worked at the park from 1978 to 1984 and actually started my photography career there. There were 4 pools there and this was the seldom photographed and ridden Kidney Pool which was named The Kona Bowl, after a famous backyard pool in nearby Escondido, CA. This little pool was tight and steep and the locals ripped it. The park and the pools went the way of all the other parks of this era, the way of the jackhammer.
